Guisborough took the lead minutes before Half-Time, but stung United into action and Matthew Jones equalized almost immediately when he headed home a good cross from Lee Matthews. The Welshman was only denied a second, moments later by a fine reflex save from the goalkeeper. United made three changes for the start of the second half with Paul Shepherd replacing Tommy Knarvik, Alan Smith coming on at Centre Forward for Lee Matthews and Andy Wright replacing Andy Gray at Outside Left. It was substitute Paul Shepherd that got United's second goal in the fiftieth minute to put them in the lead. Tony Hackworth replaced Wes Boyle on the hour mark but Guisborough drew level ten minutes later. Dixon replaced Mark Beeney in goal two minutes later and Damian Lynch also replaced Jonathan Woodgate in a double substitution. Guisborough won the game with a goal in the seventy-fifth minute. Jeff Winter (Middlebrough) was the referee.
